This picture kind of sums it all up. What can you say really? The 2012 Braves are confuse. The pitching staff is in the bottom third of baseball in almost every statistical category. It’s shocking how bad the pitching has become.
The bats are taking a lot of heat right now, but I think the hitting slump only exposed how bad the pitching has been. Beachy has been the lone bright spot. Hudson coming back has helped, but he’s still rusty. Hanson still doesn’t pitch very deep into games on a consistent basis. That leaves the Braves with Minor and Delgado who aren’t consistent.
The bullpen is getting overworked especially early in games. The Braves are 26th in quality starts so that means a lot of bullpen work.
I’ve been very optimistic about this team, but if the pitching doesn’t improve significantly it won’t matter how good the team swings the bat.
On the bright side… if you look at the lineup (when healthy) every single player has improved at the plate except for Jason Heyward. I’m not sure what the Braves are going to do about him. It’s difficult to play with an outfielder all season who can’t hit over 240.
Braves need a win desperately.
